Adaptive Equipment developed a robotic/vision based system for pad printing logos on brake shims. The vision system was used to identify the shim type and accurately determine it’s position and angle as it traveled on an in feed conveyor. Shim position data was then passed to an Epson robot that would pick the shim from the in feed conveyor and place it on a five station rotary table where it would be pad printed, dried, and offloaded by a custom pneumatic pick and place unit. A custom database was developed to manage the hundreds of shim styles processed by this system.
